HIPAA HIPAA is the acronym
for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of
1996. This law (Public Law 104-191) was enacted by
congress as healthcare reform to be implemented
incrementally. HIPAA is far reaching in its scope.
The Administrative Simplification section of HIPAA deals with
developing and maintaining standards for electronic billing
claim submission. Its goal is to improve the efficiency
and effectiveness of the healthcare system.
